The Literature Review

Bringing It All Together

During this workshop, students will be given a definition of and conceptual framework for the literature review. Then, students will analyze samples of published literature reviews and will discuss their audience and purpose. Next, students will practice synthesizing sources through an interactive activity. Finally, students will be offered an approach to the writing process, including tips for organizing the literature review, and for skillfully implementing formal language and transitional expressions.

Learning Objectives: For students to understand the literature review as a synthesis of sources and as an academic responsibility. Also, for students to feel well-equipped to use a productive writing process in order to successfully complete their own literature review.

Special Requirements: Computer with projector

Location: The Writers' Center or classroom

Duration: 50-110 minutes
