Citation Styles

A Guide to MLA, APA, or Chicago Style

During this workshop, students will be introduced to the purpose and format of citing research papers. Instructors can choose the citation style that best meets the needs of their classroom (MLA, APA, and/or Chicago NB System). They will practice citation procedures: unified style, clear communication, and documentation of sources. This workshop is ideal for any research-oriented curriculum.

Learning Objectives: For students to understand the necessity of citing sources in the academic research process, know the fundamentals for that particular style, and be able to locate helpful manuals when necessary.

Special Requirements: Computer with projector and web access. Students will need either print copies of their style manuals or access to online versions (or Responder can bring copies of the manuals from the WC).

Location: The Writers' Center or classroom

Duration: 50 minutes (for each style)
