What is Online Response?

Online Response is a writing service available to all members of the Eastern community. Online Response allows you to upload your written or visual work to receive a thoughtful feedback letter from a professional Writers' Center Online Responder. You can expect to receive your feedback letter within 24 hours after the start of your appointment.

  • Please note: If "Face-to-face or eTutoring" or "eTutoring appts. only" does not appear as a gray label beneath the name of a Responder on the schedule, that Responder is not available for file attachments. Please choose another Responder.

Scheduling an Online Response Appointment

  1. Create a Writers' Center account and log in at WCOnline.
  2. Select a schedule from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. Location is not an issue for Online Response, so feel free to check all schedules to find the most convenient time.
  3. Find a Responder who has a "Face-to-face or eTutoring" or "eTutoring appts. only" label written in gray below their name. All other Responders will not look at any file you attach.
  4. Click on an available (white) block of time that fits your schedule. An appointment window will open.
  5. Answer the "Meet Online?" question with Yes - Schedule eTutoring Appointment.
  6. Enter your course, instructor, and assignment information in the text fields. It is important to clearly and thoroughly describe the feedback you want. Answer the drop-down Skype question with no.
  7. Click on SAVE APPOINTMENT once you have completed step 6.
  8. Click on click here to attach a paper or visual before you close the "Success!" window (see below if you want to attach a paper or visual later). The "Attach a File" screen will appear.
  9. Browse your drives to locate your paper or visual, select Open, and give your document a title. Files must be less than 1MB in size and saved in the .doc, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, .xls, or .xlsx formats. Other formats will be listed, but please do not attach such files.
  10. Click on UPLOAD FILE.
  11. Upload your paper before the appointment time. If there is no paper attached to an appointment by the time the appointment begins, the appointment will be canceled and a no-show marker will be added to your account. Three no-shows during one academic quarter will freeze your account.
  12. You may upload several files (for example, your assignment prompt and your draft), but please note that the Responder may not have time to respond to all parts of longer submissions.
