Sexual Harassment

Unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature and may include unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, nonverbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.

Examples

  • Sexual comments or inappropriate references to gender
  • Sexually explicit statements, questions, jokes, or anecdotes regardless of the means of communication (oral, written, electronic, etc.)
  • Unwanted touching, patting, hugging, brushing against a person's body or staring
  • Inquiries or commentaries about sexual activity, experience, or orientation
  • Display of inappropriate or sexually oriented material in locations where others can view them

What to do

  • Tell the harasser that the behavior is offensive and that you want it to stop
  • Document the problem behavior: date, time, place, witness, specific behaviors (this could include saving text messages or emails)
  • If in the residence halls, report the harassment  to your Community Advisor (CA) or Residential Life Coordinator (RLC)
  • Seek assistance from EWU Student Support and Advocacy - 509.359.7924, Showalter Hall 300
  • Seek counseling from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) - 509.359.2366, Martin Hall 225
