Email Scams & Fraud

Frequently, scammers use email to con unsuspecting recipients out of money. The con artists are becoming more and more cunning in their efforts making their emails appear legitimate. Follow these basic tips to help avoid becoming a scam victim:

  • Don't share personal information with anyone unless you intentionally initiated the contact and you know exactly who you are dealing with.
  • Scams often imply that that there is an urgency to take action. Resist the urge to act immediately.
  • Never pay for what is supposedly a "free" gift or prize.
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is (ie. Promises of a large sum of money in return for assistance)
