Eastern Advantage

Eastern Advantage (EA) is a first-year experience program that awards two-hundred and fifty $1,500 scholarships a year to qualified incoming freshmen. EA is dedicated to helping students find the resources they need to succeed as a first-generation college student at EWU. The $1,500 award  will be disbursed in $500 increments toward tuition only at the beginning of fall, winter, and spring terms of the first year only.

EA students will have the opportunity to meet with their Advisor twice a quarter throughout their freshman year at EWU. The advisor/advisee role is key in assisting each student as this relationship will begin the process of the student's academic career. Each student will begin the process of developing their individual academic plan, based on the student's career interests. Having an individual advisor to meet with on a regular basis is essential in assuring that all students are well informed and are prepared to transition into their department majors of their choosing.

Success Skills

All incoming EA students are required to participate in Eastern Advantage Success Labs with their Advisor during fall, winter, and spring quarters of their first year.  The labs are meant to help students successfully transition from high school to college, to introduce students to campus resources, assist them with negotiating the challenges of college life, and to facilitate the exploration of majors and careers. These labs help to ensure that all incoming EA students begin their college career with all of the tools and resources necessary to be successful EWU students.

  • First Generation College Student (neither parent holds a four-year degree)
  • Recent High School Graduate

Meeting the above eligibility requirements doesn't guarantee receipt of the scholarship.
