PRIDE CENTER HISTORY
In the Spring of 2009, Eastern created the LGBTQ Task force made up of faculty, staff, and students. Their mission was to improve the campus climate for LGBTQA faculty, staff and students. The Task Force was chaired by Dr. Terrie Ashby-Scott, the Director of the Office of Transitions and Inclusion. The summer of 2009 the Task Force met for a year long retreat to determine the most critical areas for action at EWU. They established three goals at the retreat:
Train faculty and staff about LGBTQ issues
Provide visibility including an LGBTQ center
Recieve support on important issues from the univesities administration.
The Pride Center opened Fall quarter of 2009, with the official grand opening during the following Winter quarter 2010.
