MSDS

What is a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)?

It is the responsibility of the department, laboratory or shop to maintain copies of MSDSs for the products they store or use. Paper or electronic copies are acceptable.

A Material Safety Data Sheet is a document that contains information on the potential health effects of exposure to chemicals or other potentially dangerous substances, and on safe working procedures when handling chemical products. It contains hazard evaluations on the use, storage, handling and emergency procedures related to that material. The MSDS is prepared by the manufacturer or supplier.

Normally when a product is purchased an MSDS is sent along with the product. If the supplier does not provide you with an MSDS you can contact them or search on line. Below are a few MSDS search engines that can aid you.
