Retirement Plan Options for Faculty and Exempt Staff

Eastern Washington University offers retirement plan options for Faculty and Exempt staff.  Participation in a retirement plan is mandatory.

As of July 1, 2011, newly hired Faculty and Exempt employees have two retirement plans to elect to participate:

• The Eastern Washington University Retirement Plan (EWURP) (for Faculty and Exempt), OR

• The Teachers Retirement System (TRS) Plan 3 (for Faculty), or
The Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) Plan 3 (for Exempt)

New Faculty and Exempt employees hired on or after July 1, 2011, have 30 days from their date of hire to irrevocably select the retirement plan they wish to participate by completing the EWU Retirement Plan Election Form.

As of July 1, 2011, retirees or individuals who are eligible to retire under a Department of Retirement systems plan are not eligible to participate in the EWURP or TRS 3/PERS 3.  Newly hired individuals who have had prior Washington State retirement plan service should contact the benefits office to discuss their retirement plan participation options.
