What is LTD?
LTD replaces a portion of your income if you are unable to work due to illness or injury.

Employer Paid
Eastern Washington University pays for a basic Long Term Disability policy for all employees. This Basic LTD Plan provides a benefit of $50 - $240 per month after 90 days of total disability.

Employee Paid (Optional)
Receive up to 60% of your monthly salary if you cannot do your regular job duties for longer than the selected Waiting Period because of a disability.

You select the Waiting Period (minimum - 30 days). Disabilities may be temporary (e.g., maternity, surgery) or permanent. Maximum covered annual salary is $120,000.

Requests to enroll after the first 31 days of employment require insurance company approval. Any prior medical problems (e.g., back pain, knee pain, diabetes, cancer, etc.) may result in a denial of coverage.

Premiums are based on a percentage of your monthly salary. The rates vary with the length of your Waiting Period, and on your retirement plan eligibility.

Terminate/Change Optional LTD
To terminate your optional LTD coverage, you will need to complete a new LTD form. You may visit or call the Benefits Office to get this form, or it can be printed off from the internet.
To increase or decrease your waiting days any time after the first 31 days of employment you will need to complete a new enrollment form. To decrease the waiting days you will also need to complete the evidence of insurability form. You may visit or call the Benefits Office to get this form, or it can be printed off from the internet.

Faculty LTD
The University will provide eligible probationary, tenured, and senior lecturers with long-term disability insurance, with a 120-day waiting period through HCA. Eligibility shall be determined by the rules applicable to the long-term disability insurance plan. Faculty members who elect a optional LTD benefit waiting period of less than 120 days shall be responsible for paying the additional costs associated with their plan choice.
