Are You Ready to be a First Responder? (30 Minutes)

Learning Objective: Trainees will do self reflection to gauge their readiness to be a first responder and will decide to continue or discontinue the training.
Instructions:

Rate the Helpfulness Worksheet & Key (45 minutes)

Learning Objective: Trainees will compare and contrast possible responses to victim statements and learn why some statements are inappropriate or could cause harm. Please note: Each person will help using his or her own words. You may not feel comfortable using every stated example, however, it is expected that all FR avoid using the inappropriate or harmful responses.
Instructions: Complete the Helpfulness Worksheet. Compare your answers with the Key.

How to Explain the FR Role (15 minutes)

Learning Objective: Trainees will understand how to introduce their role and its limitations. Please note: first responders do not promise confidentiality.

Instructions: Read the Introduction and make brief notes of the most important parts to remember. Practice with someone, and then review a second time to see if you forgot any part of the introduction. 

Review the Quick Guide (90 Minutes)

Learning Objective: Trainees will be able to navigate the different parts of the online Quick Guide that was made for first responders.

Instructions:

1. Find and bookmark the Quick Guide for easy use.
2. Open each link and review the material that is available.
3. Write down any questions you may have and bring them to the next live training.

Guided Relaxation: Explore the Positive Benefits of Relaxation (30 Minutes)

Learning Objectives: Trainees will do explore guided imagery as a tool of relaxation and self care.

Instructions: Go to www.youtube.com and search relaxation videos. There are a few varieties. Some show scenery with soothing music. Other videos have a person's voice guiding the listener through progressive muscle relaxation or breathing exercises.
