Academic Success Instruction
A variety of credit-bearing courses are offered to enhance students' abilities for academic success. These courses address issues from effective study strategies, finals test preparation, to more specific skill development useful in successfully completing math. Some of the courses the TRiO Student Support Services offers are:
EDUC 150 - Academic Success Course
The purpose of this course is to help students develop and enhance study techniques that will contribute to academic success. Techniques introduced and practiced may include (but are not limited to) time management, lecture and chapter note-taking, SQ4R, test taking strategies, study habit evaluation, and goal setting. Students will practice each skill in the classroom and will articulate how to apply each technique to their own studies through weekly reflective journaling.
EDUC 196 - Financial Management
The course will focus on financial aid, scholarships, budgeting, and credit management. These components are the foundation of achieving financial stability while in college and beyond. The course will explore the full range of Federal student financial aid programs and benefits and resources for locating public and private scholarships. ttudents will receive assistance in completing the FAFSA and scholarship applications.
EDUC 196 - Advanced Success Strategies
The EDUC 196 courses are designed to further develop and enhance advance study techniques and to provide specialized academic support to continuing students.
CRSV 210 - Career Development
This course is designed to students define their academic and career goals. Students will gain the skills and knowledge they need to make the most of their time as a college student in preparation for a successful professional future.
CRSV 298 - Professional DevelopmentThis course is designed to ease the transition between undergraduate studies to graduate studies or into the world of work. Students will gain the skills and knowledge they need to successfully navigate life after college.
