SOAR for Students
What is SOAR?
SOAR is an automated record reflecting academic progress toward degree completion. By considering completed coursework, your current EWU enrolled courses, and transfer coursework, SOAR provides timely information on your progress toward degree completion.
SOAR...
- Does NOT replace academic advising. SOAR enhances advising and encourages student contact with their academic and major/faculty advisors to help make it easier and lead to more meaningful interactions between the advisor and the student.
- Is NOT an official transcript. It is an internal document that is not intended to report student achievement to outside parties.
- Does NOT replace written information such as the University catalog, program fliers and other handouts that explain programs and their procedures.
What kinds of reports/audits can I request in SOAR?
How do I request a Current Program audit? A Current Program audit shows general education progress for undeclared students and progress in the major/minor program(s) for declared students
How do I request a Selected Program ("What If") audit?
What if I have questions about my SOAR audit?
How do I plan future courses in SOAR?

Benefits of using SOAR..
- Helps students and their advisors monitor progress towards degree completion.
- Lists University and degree requirements in one audit.
- Takes the "guesswork" out of selecting courses for future enrollment.
- Shows which requirements are complete and which courses still need to be taken.
- Calculates cumulative EWU GPA as well as GPA for various areas, such as the major and minor.
- Shows where official transfer work will apply toward degree requirements.
- Exceptions (approved major course substitutions) will be displayed within the degree requirements.
- Anticipate and pinpoint problem areas early on, in order to resolve them in a timely manner.
- Draws its information from Banner (EWU's Student Information System), therefore, each time you run a new SOAR degree audit, the information is updated. It's very important to run a new degree audit each time.
- Thinking about changing your major? A "What If" SOAR degree audit can be run that shows you exactly how coursework already completed applies toward another major.
- Enhances student success at EWU.
