Mandatory Fees

STA Transportation Fee $6.50 Per Quarter

The new STA Transportation Fee will be added to tuition each quarter beginning January 2008. The agreement between Eastern and STA allows students, faculty and staff to ride buses for free during the academic year simply by showing their Eagle Card while traveling on any bus route. The STA transportation fee is assessed at any level of registration. It is not available in summer quarter.

The Board's vote culminates a process that began in the spring when students voted 931 to 269 in favor of a mandatory fee of $7 - $12. The Board, which has final say on the amount, felt that $6.50 would not only sustain the current level of service but would provide a small cushion for other possible expenses.

Health & Wellness / Student Health Clinic Fee $77.04 Per Quarter

The Comprehensive Health & Wellness Program is an all inclusive approach to physical and psychological well-being for Eastern students. Returning students will notice that this program includes formerly separate fees of health clinic and wellness services. This new approach brings together the student health clinic services, health & wellness education, and adds counseling and psychological services to the available services.

Any EWU student in a Cheney/Spokane based program taking six or more credits will participate in this program. Students will have access to a basic level of ambulatory health clinic services at any Rockwood Clinic in Cheney, Medical Lake, and Spokane. Students will also have access to counseling and psychological services at no extra cost. Health and wellness programming, education, and other wellness resources will also continue to be available. Additionally, this program supports collaborative educational efforts with Residence Life, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Rockwood Clinics, Athletics, and other campus and community partners.

Student Technology $35.00 Per Quarter

On April 2, 1999 the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University recommended to Eastern's Board of Trustees that a mandatory technology fee be assessed on all Eastern students. The fee will be implemented in accordance with RCW288.15.051 and the conditions described below. The technology fee will be used to recover, in whole or in part, the costs of providing and maintaining services to students that include: access to the internet and world wide web, e-mail, computer and multimedia work stations and laboratories, computer software, and dial-up telephone services. Fee dollars will be focused on two main goals:
(1) provide students with dial-in internet service, and (2) renew equipment in the General Use computer labs. The student technology fee is assessed at $3.50 per credit to a cap of $35.00 per quarter. Summer quarter is optional and is a flat $35.00 fee.

Recreation Center Fee $65.00 Per Quarter

A $65.00 Recreation Center Fee will be added to tuition beginning Spring 2008. This fee was approved by the student body and the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University Student Council to fund the construction of the new facility. The fee will be assessed to students in the Cheney/Spokane area every quarter. The Recreation Center Fee is assessed at any level of registration.

The new Recreation Center was designed to be the nucleus of Student Life and Community Health and Wellness. For more information visit the Recreation Center Web Page: (http://www.ewu.edu/URC.xml)
