The mission of our Veterans Services office is to ensure that you get the most out of your GI Bill. 

If you are a veteran or a dependent of a veteran eligible for VA Education Assistance through the Department of Veterans Affairs, you will need to work through our Veterans Services office to access your benefits.  Find out more about the Post-9/11 GI Bill and other programs.

Never Claimed Benefits

If benefits have never been claimed, application must be made to Department of Veterans Affairs. Applications can be made electronically using Veteran Online Application (VONAPP). Hard copy paper applications can also be submitted via our office.   Veterans that are claiming benefits under Chapters 30, 32, 33, 1606, or 1607 must submit the Application for VA Education Benefits (VA form 22-1990).

Dependents that are claiming Chapter 35 benefits must submit the Application for Survivor's and Dependents' Educational Assistance (VA form 22-5490).

Dependents that are applying for Chapter 33 Transfer of Entitlement must submit the Application for Family Member to Use Transferred Benefits, (VA form 22-1990e).  Applications for the transfer of entitlement cannot be processed until the Department of Defense has approved the transfer of education benefits from the service member to the qualifying dependent.

Already Claimed or Been Approved for Benefits

If any benefit has already been claimed at another school or the same school, but with a break, all that is required is a Request for Change of Program or Place of Training (VA form 22-1995) for veterans claiming chapters 30, 32, 33, 1606, or 1607.  Dependents claiming 33 will also fill out this Request for Change of Program.  Dependents claiming chapter 35 benefits will need to do a Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (VA form 22-5495).

Continuing Students Under Chapters 30, 35, 1606 and 1607

Continuing students that have already claimed benefits at EWU under chapters 30,35,1606, and 1607 must submit a Veterans Enrollment Card each term or each academic year that benefits are to be claimed.  Students who want to claim benefits during summer quarter should submit a copy of their final class schedule to the Veterans Services office.

Continuing Students Under Chapter 33 (Veterans and Dependents)

Continuing students that have already claimed benefits at EWU under chapter 33 must submit a final schedule to our office before enrollments will be reported to the VA.  Students who want to claim benefits during summer quarter should submit a copy of their final class schedule to the Veterans Services office.

VA work study

Veterans are eligible for VA work study as long their enrollment is at least ¾ time and work is performed in a VA approved site that directly services veterans.  Veterans should work with the hiring authority for making application back to VA.  VA will not issue a work study contract for a term that an enrollment certification as not been submitted for. Please make sure you have contacted our office, filled out an enrollment card and that the enrollment certification has been transmitted to VA prior to submitting the application.
