Eastern Scholars Academy
Through its focus on academic enrichment, the Eastern Scholars Academy (ESA) equips students with diverse skills to successfully navigate their first year at Eastern Washington University. ESA is provided at no additional cost to the student and includes:
The Eastern Scholars Academy (ESA)

Students sharpen core academic skills in math, reading and writing, strengthen communication and socialization skills, as well as build community.

Freshman attend the academically rigorous program to ease their transition into college. For the duration of the 11-day Academy, students live on-campus in the dormatories, 24 hours per day, participating in classes, study groups, and evening recreation designed to replicate a healthy college lifestyle that balances academics with one's social life.

In their classes, students are introduced to EWU faculty and instructors before thousands of their peers arrive on-campus.

Facilitators introduce students to tools to overcome challenges, manage their independence, and take full advantage of EWU resources.

ESA begins 11 days prior to Fall Quarter orientation.
Living & Learning Communities

Before the EWU Fall Quarter begins, students formulate study groups and adjust to campus life, which eases transitions into college and increases the likelihood of success.

Students, staff and faculty are brought together in environments outside the classroom to provide a deeper level of learning and collaboration.
Eastern Scholars First Year Experience Course

Students learn and strengthen academic success strategies through course-specific activities.

Faculty introduce students to positive study habits, goal setting, critical reading strategies, note taking strategies, exam preparation, as well as free resources available on-campus at the Academic Success Center, as well as online.
